Looking for a way to engage your young learner in learning to read? The sight word matching-concentration game is always a big hit!
This game is ultra simple, but it stacks lots of important skills. Matching and memory games can:
- Improve concentration
- increase short term memory
- promote attention to detail
- improve vocabulary (obviously!)
- train visual memory
Matching is so much fun for students that they don't even know they're learning!
How to use these matching flash cards:
- Print out two copies of the provided cards on cardstock or heavy weight paper. For new or shy learners, you can print one set on one color and the other set on a different color (this can help engagement and also teach them to observe context clues).
- Shuffle and spread them on the table.
- When your learner uncovers a card, say the word with them. As they get better at recognizing words, allow them to say the matching card on their own. Eventually, as they get better and start memorizing the words, allow them to say the word both times.
- Allow them to play as often as they like!
5 pages of printable memory flashcards and instructions on how to maximize gameplay!
